Summary
200 intensive care unit surfaces were randomized to wiping with HOCl water or a 500 mg/L chlorine trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) solution. Colony counts and pass rates did not differ at 5 minutes, 4 hours or 8 hours; pass rates for both fell from about 97% to 60 to 66% by 8 hours.
Key points
- Design: randomized (surfaces as units), single hospital. Trichloroisocyanuric acid is a close chlorine-isocyanurate relative of NaDCC.
- The outcome is colony counts at 5 minutes, 4 hours and 8 hours after wiping.
- Funding: not checked.
- Added from the October 2026 literature sweep, from the abstract; curators to check against the full text.
